MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota-Morris defeated Saint John's 3-0 under the lights in its inaugural game in recently opened Big Cat Stadium in Morris Tuesday, Sept. 16.  The game was the first ever soccer match in Big Cat Stadium.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 24:14 mark and jumped ahead 2-0 with a tally 58 seconds into the second half. Morris then ended the scoring with a goal 13 minutes later (58:49).

The Johnnies outshot the Cougars 15-11, while corner kicks were nearly even at 6-5 for Morris.  The game, on the new turf surface of Big Cat Stadium, was an event UMM Soccer had been anxiously awaiting.  Saint John's, coming off two tough MIAC overtime losses, took the opportunity to give its younger players some playing time; ultimately seeing 23 players in action.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made six saves in his first collegiate start in net for the Johnnies.

SJU (4-3, 0-2 MIAC) travels to face Gustavus Adolphus this Saturday, Sept. 20. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the GAC Soccer Complex in St. Peter.
