SJU Cross Country Coach Tim Miles

SJU cross country coach Tim Miles ended his 29th season as head coach of the Johnnies in 2007. Miles graduated from Saint John's in 1976 and received his master's degree in forestry from the University of Minnesota in 1979.

As an athlete at Saint John's, Miles was an All-MIAC performer in cross country and the MIAC six-mile run champion and steeplechase runner-up on the track as a senior in 1976.

Miles returned to Saint John's in 1979-80 as head coach of the cross country and track and field programs.

He has produced a winning program that has finished among the MIAC's top two squads in 22 of the past 28 seasons, including nine MIAC titles (1981, 1982, 1983, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2006 and 2007).

At the national level, Miles' teams have gained 17 top-15 finishes at the NCAA Division III meet and have produced 17 All-Americans. The Johnnies have qualified as a team for the national meet 19 times since 1979.

Miles also serves as the head track and field coach at Saint John's. SJU won the 2007 MIAC Outdoor team championship, its fourth title in the last 10 years on the track.

At the NCAA level, SJU has produced 46 Division III track and field All-America performances since 1980.

Miles is a resident of nearby St. Joseph.
