2006-07 SJU Assistant Coaching Staff

Jerry Fogarty

Jerry Fogarty is in his eighth year as an assistant coach for SJU in 2007-08. As a collegiate player at St. Thomas, Fogarty played under former Tommie coach Tom Feely in the early 1960s and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1964. After graduation, he became a basketball assistant at Rochester Lourdes. In 1969, he became the school’s head coach and guided Lourdes to a state independent crown in 1973. Fogarty and his wife, Becki, live in Avon. They have three children.

Pat McKenzie

Former Johnnie captain, Pat McKenzie is in his second year as assistant basketball coach at Saint John’s in 2007-08. McKenzie joins the Johnnies after two seasons as director of basketball operations at Wis.-Green Bay. As a collegiate player, McKenzie manned the point guard spot as a four-year letter-winner. He led the MIAC in assists as a senior and was a member of the Johnnies’ NCAA Division III Sweet 16 team as a freshman. A Green Bay, Wis. native, McKenzie was named to the 2000 Green Bay Press Gazette All-Area team and was also tabbed Metro Player of the Year for his performance at Notre Dame Academy. McKenzie and his prep coach Tom Neises led the Tritons to three straight WISAA state tournament appearances. McKenzie graduated from Saint John’s with a bachelor’s degree in communication. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in educational leadership.

Nate Miller

Nate Miller is in his first season as a Saint John's assistant coach in 2007-08. Miller joins the Johnnies after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons at St. Cloud Apollo H.S. from 2005-07. Miller is 2005 graduate of St. Cloud State University and was a two-year captain for the Huskies. He finished 10th in school history in scoring, second in steals, seventh in assists and fourth in three-point field goals made. In 2005, Miller was named the St. Cloud State Athlete of the Year. A native of Little Falls, Miller ended his high school career (1997-2001) as the Flyers’ all-time leading scorer with 1,680 points.

Matt Ohme

This is Ohme’s first year as an assistant coach for the Johnnies.  Ohme graduated from Saint John’s in 2007 and was a four-year starter for the Johnnies.  Ohme is currently 17th on the Johnnies’ all-time scoring list with 1,121 points and holds the school records for assists (367), games started (100) and minutes played (3,166).  He helped lead the Johnnies to their 13th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance last season. Ohme is a native and graduate of Bloomington Jefferson High School.
