COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Bethel University shot 29 of 33 from the free-throw line to defeat Saint John’s 78-66 Saturday, Feb. 2 at Sexton Arena. The Royals improved upon their 26-24 halftime lead by shooting 54.5% from the field and made 26 of their 29 second-half free throws (89.7 percent).
Senior wing Ryan Lieser (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) finished with 18 points and five assists to lead the Johnnies (11-8, 8-6 MIAC), while sophomore Michael Stiller (Avon, Minn./Albany) finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Senior wing Brady Brink (Waconia, Minn.) added nine points and nine rebounds.
Cory Laugen led the Royals (11-7, 7-6 MIAC) with 20 points, doubling his season average of 10.6.
The Johnnies will travel to face Gustavus Adolphus on Monday, Feb. 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Gus Young Court in St. Peter.
