COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Johnnies scored in double-figures as host Saint John’s defeated Saint Mary’s 75-61 on Saturday, Jan. 26. SJU improves to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the MIAC with the win.
Senior wing Brady Brink (Waconia, Minn.) led the Johnnies with 18 points and five rebounds, while freshman wing Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) added 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes of play. Junior wing Cole Isetts (Red Wing, Minn.), who entered this afternoon’s game with a career high of three points, contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. Freshman wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) and senior point guard Nick Johnson (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Freshman Will Wright scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half to lead all scorers, while fellow freshman Lukas Holland posted 14 points for the Cardinals (1-16, 1-11 MIAC).
The Johnnies travels to Northfield to face Carleton (13-4, 8-4 MIAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the West Gymnasium.
