Brink, Johnnies Defeat Augsburg

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Senior wing Brady Brink (Waconia, Minn.) tallied 24 points, 17 in the first half, with nine rebounds and a career-high six blocks as Saint John’s defeated Augsburg 70-60 Saturday afternoon in Collegeville.

The Johnnies shot 50% from the floor in the first half as they cruised to a 40-16 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. Saint John’s led by as much as 25 with 9:35 left in the game, but the Auggies took advantage of eight Johnnie turnovers to cut the deficit to 10.

Senior post Jason Fogt (Askov, Minn./East Central) added 14 points, while senior point guard Nick Johnson (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) and freshman wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Junior forward Nate Alm and senior forward Darren Nelson led Augsburg (3-9, 1-6 MIAC) with 10 points apiece. Senior center Femi Solaja, who entered the game leading the MIAC in rebounding (11.3 rpg) and shooting percentage (64.3%), was 3 of 9 from the floor for six points and collected nine rebounds. Solaja also had five turnovers in the game.

Saint John’s (8-5, 5-3 MIAC) returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Hamline for a 3 p.m. game at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
